Qualifications
of becoming a Super Saiyan

"Super
Saiyan" is a legend passed down among the Saiyan, of a genius
fighter among the Saiyan, who comes along only once in every thousand
years. It is said that the Super Saiyan is cruel and powerful; so
powerful, in fact, that there can be no one stronger in the universe.
The Saiyan's hair turns gold, and the eyes turn bigger and green. The
higher the Super Saiyan's power level is, the longer the hair grows.
The highest Super Saiyan power level was 3; which Goku reached. There
is a "Super Saiyan 4" in GT, but it is not a true
"Super Saiyan" form because the hair remains black. It looks
more like a half monkey, half Saiyan. Hair grows on the chest, a tail
grows, eyes turn evil like.

1. Must be at least
partly Saiyan.
2. Must possess at least

pure heart.

the realization of being a Super Saiyan.
5. After the first
transformation into a Super Saiyan, the trans-

Super Saiyan
Level 1 (SSJ)
|
|
|
This stage was first reached by Goku in movie #2 as he
fought Lord Slug. He didn't appear to be a Super Saiyan then, since
his hair had a black tinge to it.
Officially, Goku went SSJ for the first time in the Frieza
Saga, after Frieza killed Krillin.
Physical description: Increased muscle mass, and
long blond hair that stands on end. Occasionally accompanied by a
yellow wave, or lightning.
*Note* A Saiyan is normally born with a tail. As
long as he keeps his tail, he can turn into a Were-monkey.

Ultra Super
Saiyan (USSJ)
|
|
|
This stage is sort of a mid level between SSJ and
SSJ2. It was reached by either Vegeta or Trunks after training
in the room of Spirit and Time.
Physical description: Bulky muscle mass, hair becomes more
rigid. Due to the bulky muscles, your speed decreases, but brute
strength is great, same goes for attacks, if they hit their target.

Super Saiyan
Level 2 (SSJ2)
|
|
|
Gohan was the first to reach this stage, he achieved this stage during
his fight with cell. This level is incredibly more powerful than SSJ1.
SSJ1 was used quite frequently in movies #4-9, but SSJ2 had more
immediate results. SSJ1 proved inefficient in stopping Bojack's crew,
and when Gohan reached SSJ2, he easily overpowered the aliens.
Physical description: Greater muscle mass than SSJ1, and a few more
inches of blond hair. Occasionally accompanied by zapping silver
lightning.

|
|
|
Super Saiyan
Level 3 (SSJ3)
|
|
|
Goku first achieved this level during a fight with Majin Buu. This is
the most powerful level of Super Saiyan. Majin Buu could overpower
SSJ3, but this level did destroy Fat Janemba in movie #12. SSJ3 was
also used in Dragon Ball GT, but Goku couldn't hold it due to his
little body's lack of strength.
Physical Description: Goku's physical appearance is more lean and
menacing looking, with about 4 and half feet of flowing blond hair and
a larger muscle mass.
*Note* Only Goku and Gotenks have achieved this level. No other
Saiyan's have achieved it.

Super Saiyan
Level 4 (SSJ4)
|
|
|
This is actually not a SSJ level, seeing that Goku doesn't have blond
hair. He does have increased muscle mass though, but I don't believe
this is a SSJ level. This is also the only stage with a tail. In SSJ4,
Goku is almost god-like, and he can use "Times 10 Kamehameha."
Physical description: Although Goku was wished by the Dragon Balls
to become a child again, in SSJ4 form, he has his normal adult body
with a bit more muscle mass. His upper torso is covered in red fur,
his hair is black, and his eyes are red rimmed.

Ozouru
|
|
|
When a Saiyan stares at a full moon, he/she will change into a 20-foot
tall, monstrous monkey or gorilla called a Were-monkey (Ozouru, in
Japanese, translates to "Big Monkey). This is possibly the most
powerful level under SSJ3. All Saiyan (excluding Goku and Gohan) will
be able to control themselves during this stage (although in
Dragonball GT, it is implied that Vegeta couldn't control himself in Ozouru
form, but Bebi could.) It doesn't matter which full moon they look at
(in Dragonball GT, Goku turned Ozouru by looking at the full Earth.
And, Vegeta had the ability to create a pocket-sized full moon when he
first arrived on Earth to fight Goku and Gohan that made him turn into
the Were-Monkey.)
*Note* A Saiyan must have a tail to be able to turn Ozouru. If the
tail is cut off, they revert to normal. If the tail is pulled out by
the roots, the Saiyan will not turn Ozouru ever again.

|
Golden Ozouru
|
|
|
A level that was achieved by Goku and Bebi-Vegeta in Dragon Ball GT.
This is the most powerful form of Were-monkey, demonstrated by Goku in
DBGT episodes 38-40, when he swatted Bebi-Vegeta all over Planet Plant
(Bebi's recreation of the Tsufuru home planet.) The main physical
difference with the Ozouru stage, is that the fur is yellow instead of
brown.

How did Vegeta
turn Super Saiyan?
|
|
|
Referring
back to "Qualifications of becoming a Super Saiyan", Vegeta
satisfies both the first and
second qualifications
easily. As for the third and fourth rule:
Vegeta:
"I am pure EVIL!!"
(or "I do have a pure
heart... It's just pure evil!!")
After seeing Trunks and
Goku in Super Saiyan mode, Vegeta not only realizes the level of power
of a Super Saiyan, but also the fact that there can be more than one
Super Saiyan at one time. Vegeta's been trying to reach (and surpass)
the power level of a Super Saiyan ever since. However, while he was
training in the artificial gravity room (450x gravity), he realized
that he has reached his limit, yet is still significantly weaker than
a Super Saiyan. Vegeta became enraged with himself, which in turns
triggers his change into a Super Saiyan.
